The American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado has filed a lawsuit against the town of Vail for terminating artist Danielle SeeWalker from an artist-in-residence program. The suit, submitted to U.S. District Court on Monday, claims that the town violated SeeWalker’s First Amendment rights by dismissing her from the program due to her political beliefs, even though she had not yet begun her residency. According to a statement from the ACLU of Colorado, SeeWalker’s freedom of speech was infringed upon by the town of Vail when they abruptly terminated her residency after she expressed her personal opinions on the war in Gaza on her social media page.
