Following the death of a cannabis worker in Massachusetts due to an asthma attack, the state’s Department of Public Health is urging the local marijuana industry to implement additional safety measures to prevent work-related asthma. The employee, who was working at Trulieve Cannabis Corp.’s processing facility in Holyoke, was packaging ground cannabis into pre-rolls when the attack occurred. After an investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the company reached a settlement with OSHA. Both DPH and OSHA have confirmed that this was the first known case of occupational asthma resulting in death in the U.S. cannabis industry.
