Blunt Force: Kid Cudi’s Journey to a Healthier Relationship with Weed
It’s no secret: weed, whether medicinal or recreational, is wonderful. It’s good for a great number of things, and it makes you feel good. But as the saying goes, ‘too much of a good thing’ can be problematic. And for rapper Kid Cudi, this was a lesson he had to learn the hard way.
In his newly published autobiography, the musician opens up about his experiences that shaped his career, including his problematic cannabis use. In an interview with People, Kid Cudi shared how his smoking habit had taken over his life. “I was smoking maybe 15 blunts a day, wake up in the mornings, get high. It truly ruled my life,” he admitted.
But after realizing the negative impact it was having on his life, Kid Cudi made the decision to quit and abstained from weed for two months. When he eventually started smoking again, he did so with a newfound awareness and control. “Now I just get after it at night or on the weekends when I have the free time and I’m just relaxing, but I’m not smoking nowhere near as much weed as I was smoking before,” he shared.
Not only has this change in his relationship with weed improved his daily routine, but it has also had a positive impact on his work as an actor. Kid Cudi admitted to being “blitzed out of my mind” in many of his on-screen appearances, but now, he is able to fully embrace his emotions and deliver powerful performances while sober. “There’s no way I could have done this if I was high as shit,” he said.
Kid Cudi hopes that his journey will inspire and bring hope to others who may be struggling with similar issues. “It’s always a lesson in there, always. Even if it doesn’t seem like it could be possible, because in the moment, everything just seems like all is lost, you know what I mean? But if you really think about it, everything happens for a reason,” he concluded.
So let Kid Cudi’s story be a reminder that even when things seem bleak, there is always a way to overcome and come out stronger on the other side. And as for weed, it’s all about finding a healthy balance and relationship with the plant.
