The Colorado Attorney General’s Office has launched an investigation into the owners of multiple run-down apartment buildings in Aurora and Denver. The investigation, which began in September, is focused on potential violations of the state’s safe-housing and consumer-protection laws. The Denver Post obtained records showing that the state office has issued subpoenas to CBZ Management, one of the main representatives of the owners, and several of its subsidiary companies. The subpoenas cover a range of topics, including the companies’ advertising practices, maintenance and health code compliance, handling of security deposits, and tenant screening procedures. These buildings, managed by CBZ Management, have been the subject of numerous complaints from tenants and local authorities, and have even gained international attention due to allegations of gang activity.
